Whitney Sawmills specialises in Green Oak beams and structural timbers, cut to size in lengths up to 40 foot (12m). We also cut beams from certain softwoods, principally Douglas Fir beams and Larch.

With decades of experience of working with timber framers, builders and architects, our Oak
beams are sawn on site allowing a rapid response to orders and personal attention to details. As
we mill all orders on site, we are able to produce beams of any cross section and have complete
control over the process and the quality of the end product.

Running our own sawmill gives us the advantage of being able to respond very rapidly to urgent
requirements. Although we concentrate on sawing Green Oak beams and Douglas Fir beams we
regularly saw beams, cladding, planking and many other products from timbers e.g. Larch, Sweet
Chestnut and Western Red Cedar which are naturally durable and suitable for exterior work.

We are able to select logs for cutting jowl posts, cruck blades and other individual requirements,
and we keep a large stock of UK and European-grown logs for this purpose.

Whitney Sawmills specialises in the supply of large section British Douglas Fir.

Logs are generally cross-cut to 12-metre lengths for transporting to the yard and Whitney Sawmill can produce beams of up to 9.5 metres in length.

We source our Douglas Fir beams from mainly British woodlands as it is a good softwood alternative to Green Oak.
